Jérémi's Story

Jérémi is almost five. The fact that he will soon celebrate his birthday is a gift in itself. From the time he was born, he has had many health problems: diarrhoea, all kinds of allergies, drastic weight loss and a collapsed lung. When he was 16 months old, Jérémi was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. I didn't think I would ever be able to stop crying and keep on living.

Forty-five years ago, Jérémi would probably have died before he turned four. Today, thanks to research into children's diseases, he can expect to live more than 37 years! Research must continue and we need your support.

Sometimes, he asks me questions about heaven, and I tell him,"Up there, you won't have to endure three hours of treatment every day. You won't be sick anymore." Each time, he tells me, "You know Mommy, I want to stay here, even if I'm sick."

This fall he will start school and it will surely make his condiion worse. I'm torn. What would you do in my place? Should I give him something close to a normal life, even if there is a risk for his health? Or should I isolate him and keep him at home, waiting for the end? He is only four, too young to give up hope! Thank you for helping my Jérémi in the fight for his life.
